Elemenantary Class - July 10/11

Parents,
this last weekend the elementary class learned that God is Righteous: I Should Keep Doing What is Right. The bible teaching was out of Nehemiah 1-6, where Nehemiah kept doing what God wanted him to do even when others discouraged him.
The title to this weekends teaching seems to be pretty simple, "keep doing what is right". But its much more difficult than it sounds. First, what the world tells us that is right is many times different than what the Bible says. Second, our flesh wants/desires many things we know is clearly not "right". Third, we have an enemy that is constantly lying to us, accusing us, and waging war on us.
What can we learn from Nehemiah?
  1. He prayed! In those 6 chapters, its mentioned Nehemiah prays before each decision, prays when he is discouraged, prays when opposition comes against him - Am I spending time in prayer?
  2. He has a cor group of friends that he confides in (Nehemiah 2:12) - Am I living out my faith with a cor group of believers that I can confide in when I need to talk?
  3. He reminds the community of their mission (Nehemiah 4:14) - Am I living a missional lifestyle? Great Sermon on this, Am I an Influencer.
  4. Nehemiah places guards in place to watch for the enemy (Nehemiah 4:16) - What kind of "guards" am I placing in my life? We all need them, don't make the mistake thinking you don't!

Take these 4 things and talk to your family on ways you can implement them in your life. Each person in the family may have different conclusions, and that's OK. Talking about them is the most important act.

The Family Devotional this week has two great activities, one activity is all about Acts of Random Kindness. Nice coincidence that Heritage has Do Something...Now event this weekend! Show up at 9:30 this Saturday at Bettendorf Campus and do something great with your family
